Since the release of 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom' on Netflix, black Twitter among others has been divided on the film. The August Wilson film which is an adaptation of a play was a look into the life of one of the earliest blues singers to record. The film has been received with some assuming it would be more of a biopic which focused primarily on the singer while others praised it for its amazing performances including but not limited to Viola Davis as Ma Rainey, the late Chadwick Boseman as Levee, and Glynn Turman as Toledo. We definitely felt the film delivered high energy with memorable scenes but we could see how some viewers wanted Ma Rainey to be the focal point. Some have attributed the film's limited depiction of Ma Rainey to her real-life details being unknown.
