Before I watch the series that everyone else is talking about, I wanted to talk about the novel to movie adaptation ”Native Son” starring Ashton Sanders on HBO. Mixed feelings don't begin to express my views on the movie, considering it’s based on a book, it’s not a lot I can say other than it’s not a happy ending. The plot is about Bigger Thomas, a young black man trying his best to not become a stereotype, and product of his poverty-stricken environment. Unfortunately, his attempts guide him right down the path he wanted so much to avoid. What was taken from the adaptation is that society is inevitably set up for the destruction of the black man despite desires and opportunities to better ourselves, despite not being like our peers. Native Son will evoke all types of emotions from happiness, to absolute anger. Have you read the book or seen the movie?
