New York Undercover

New York Undercover was my first interaction with crime TV during the early 90s. It followed the normal drama of crime series, and also had a catchy hip-hop tune at the beginning & throughout each episode. Unique to that time, the lead roles were cast by Blacks and Hispanics who were detectives, lead by a female Lieutenant. Additionally, it covered topics no other networks were willing to explore such as gang violence, hate crimes, corruption, & other controversial subject matters. There’s the talk of a possible reboot which I️ believe would be successful based on our continuing social injustices apparent today, & because art imitates life, this show as an art form demonstrated that.
