“The Carmichael Show” was truly a gem discovered too late by a lot of us. The sitcom is about Jerrod Carmichael, his girlfriend Maxine and his traditional family who share their traditional thoughts. Besides being hilarious, the show had such social importance. Not only did it bring the laughs, but it also tackled topics like xenophobia, depression, suicide, gun violence, politics, gentrification, and of course racism. Every episode had a purpose to educate, and show a black family talking about issues normally not discussed. It was also tv magic watching them discuss often times, their opposing views. As the baton is passed to Black-ish, one could only wonder what other greatness The Carmichael Show had to offer? It’s streaming now on HULU.
